Mission Hub Kotido

The multifunctional home base for Ugandan missionaries and pastors, where experience, support and equipping come together.

We can totally picture it: more Ugandan missionaries in the field, in Karamoja and far beyond. A base where they can be equipped but also find rest from their hard work. Where local pastors receive training and learn to teach their people. A home base with room for experience, support and equipping.

EXPERIENCE

Individuals and groups, from Uganda and beyond, get a taste of mission work and develop a passion for it. Church leaders, ministers in training, people wondering if God is calling them. They discover that mission work is the responsibility of their church in Uganda. That you can start close to home (an affordable day trip from the capital). Here they can feel the darkness in which many still live, on the one hand, and the joy and freedom of those who have come to faith in the Lord Jesus, on the other. We believe that people will return to Karamoja or travel further north in the service of the gospel. Church leaders who have been here will include mission in their sermons and support missionaries who are sent out.

SUPPORT

The center offers a safe, stable place to live in Karamoja. Local church planters can take a breather, be encouraged by other missionaries, share their experiences, and move on. Missionaries exchange knowledge, resources, practical lessons, and bottlenecks.

EQUIPPING

People prepare for missionary work and do part of their training here. They can immediately put what they have learned into practice. Practical, personal, and spiritual challenges become real, and there are people with missionary experience who guide you through them. Good preparation for missionary work contributes to staying in the field longer and crossing more borders. In addition to training missionaries, local pastors are also equipped here. Together with them, we strive to see the Bible have an impact on everyday life. To draw hope and joy from knowing and loving God.

Partnership

Mission Hub Kotido not only brings people together locally, it also connects us across borders. Most of the work, and the most difficult work, will be done by local believers. They will carry Jesus’ Word and Light to remote villages. They will travel north: South Sudan, Chad, Eritrea, Somalia, Tunisia, Niger…

We see ourselves as partners who admire how this desire translates into obedience. We are a link in the chain. We believe that the Lord has sent us to Karamoja for this very reason. And we also believe that mission today is not a question of either/or, but of both/and. Not only from the West, not only by Ugandans. Together, we use our resources and experience with a view to the coming of His kingdom. No one needs to be ashamed that they cannot do it alone. No one needs to be afraid that there is no place for their gifts.

Help us build

In the coming years, we want to build Mission Hub Kotido. AIM has provided the first $20,000. With this, we have purchased land, are building a small house for the guard, a shed, and are starting on the wall around the land. To complete this, another €8,000 is needed.

The next step is a house. We hope to live here in the coming years, and after us, we hope that (Ugandan) missionaries will lead the center. Part of these costs will come from our personal budget for the coming years (the amount we pay to AIM each month for our housing). In addition, another €22,000 is needed. This will directly contribute to the continuity of the work here in Kotido.

There are even bigger plans in the works. For classrooms with a library. A small “village” of African round houses for short and long stays. Dormitories for larger groups. And hopefully more houses for missionaries who also want to work here full time. Much still needs to be worked out. We need help with that too.

The project is being carried out within AIM and has been developed in collaboration with the office in Kampala. It is closely aligned with AIM’s broader development to focus more on mobilizing and equipping missionaries in countries where the church is growing, such as in most parts of Uganda.
